06.13.2011 Trail Updates

Replacement of the west side steps at the Huckleberry Trail’s Southgate Crossing will begin Monday, June 13 and continue through the second week of July.

The steps will be cordoned off on Monday to begin demolition of the existing steps, after which Public Works crews will begin earthwork activities to construct the appropriate embankment for the new stairs as well as construction of a small gravity wall to contain the embankment.

Pedestrian traffic will continue to be directed to use the east side steps and temporary crossing of Southgate Drive until the new pedestrian bridge is in place and reopened to traffic. Once the bridge is in place, the east side steps will be replaced and scheduled for completion prior to the start of the Fall Semester. Every effort will be made to ensure minimum disruption of vehicular traffic on Southgate Drive. Occasional, brief lane closures may occur during which time traffic will be flagged to one operational lane.
